Connecting to NEW HDTV with Optical sound out

Hi, my new TV (LN5710) only has an optical sound out but my old home theater does not support optical. Is there a converter that I can use to connect these two?

Thanks, I did some research on the net and reached the same conclusion.

I also noted that some of these devices get overheated an go bust, so is it necessary to switch these off when not in use?
