According to what I have heard from people involved with the development,
the unit will be for reception of DCII format, but will not address the
encryption. From what I understand, very few DCII services are transmitted
without encryption. I hope that this can be addressed as it would be great
to receive the programming that is basically FTA services!

Been running a 4200v for years and have found tons of things in fixed
key. I hope these can grab that sort of stuff as well. In some ways it
is superior to my 922 and 905. I have high hopes for this thing. Time
will tell.

There are some PBS stations including my own "Louisiana Public
Broadcasting" which are listed as Free by Lyngsat, but in DCII format.

I would buy such a device as soon as it is available.

I would have bought 4DTV just to receive LPB, but my understanding is that
it requires authorization by a dealer just to receive the FREE stuff.

When I got my 905, NPS (888-728-3930) authorized it for free, without
purchasing programming. I told them I wanted to check signal qualities
before purchasing programming since I had a small dish (7.5') and a lot
of people were having problems with 4DTV HBO's and MTV's. Not sure if
they still do this.

It needs an initial hit to get FTA DCII. If you can hit g10 C band
then NP. If not, get a used one.
Also, look for a used 4200v commercial IRD. They are a nice addition
for FTA DCII denied to 905 920 and 922 owners. :)

LPB (on the 4DTV) is nice (I watch it every once in awhile) but I can
also get it via UHF skip with an outside antenna though Channel 18
when conditions are right. The station I sometimes pick up is 150
miles away....

Are you saying that if I just buy a used 4DTV unit that has been "hit" at
any time in the past ..... that I will be able to receive the DCII FTA
stuff with it.

That is an interesting thought, because I have no interest in using it
for subscription services.

Correct, but if you can see g10 C band you can get a free hit from
NPS.

I understand, I do the same thing.

Can this also be done with a 905? Getting a free hit that is. If you've got
no VCRS module, how? How's it done with a 4200? No interest in subs or
analog. Just want to decide if it's worth it to get the FTA DCII.

Thanks

Yes they will hit a 905. You might need to make up an analog ID to
give them and you will need to be on g10 C band.

I wish I knew how to get it done to a 4200v as I have two that are
brand new and worthless. Definitely get a used 4200v if you do
encounter one.

On one of the satforums they use to talk about someone who could
arrange for a hit, but that was long ago and I forgot my password for
that site.
