hi, if you check this link http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Processors-Benchmarklist.2436.0.html they have a benchmark list that list the i7 at #5 , and the Core 2 Quad Q9000 at #36. i'm not sure about the accuracy of this site, but to be over 30 spots below the other looks pretty definite.
but i've seen in these forums that people consider their rankings to be very close, and not only that but some would prefer to have the Q9000 so i really don't know.

i7 720QM is significantly faster than a Q9000.
Also about notebookcheck's site well they give you the general info about how the CPU performs but they are not always 100% accurate

Has performance ratings for pretty much every CPU. They are also not 100% accurate. I usually like to get benchmarks from a few different websites when I made a decision.

But the Core i7 720QM is much faster then a Q9000.
