I am wondering if I can install and run a 5.1 sound card on a motherboard that has intergrated 7.1 sound?

yes. i would uninstall the software for the integrated card but you can easily install a card slot solution and install the software and everything will work fine.

if you already have integrated, why would you want to add a 5.1 card though? honestly unless you are an audiophile and buy an expensive card its not going to be a noticible improvment. well, unless you hate the software that comes with your integrated system.
