Dark capture card thumbnails

Hello!

I have 3 different software programs which allow me to create snapshot images/thumbnails of video files at random or scheduled times.  The process works fine for each program, but the images are always dark.  I ASSUME the issue lies somewhere within the settings of the only capture device I have: Hauppaugge WinTV-HVR-2255 (F111).

Is this an accurate assumption?  Is there any way to boost the video's luminence without any of the programs having any UI options to do this? Maybe there is something else at work here I am ignorant of?

Ideas?

If there isn't any adjustment on the tuner card or software you may have to use photo editing software to lighten the captures. If that software can batch process them it won't be too much of a hassle.

Batch editing is the work-around I've been using. It is not a solution.
No, I have not discovered any tweaks I can make to the tuner card because it is the capture process that is at fault, I believe, or all my VIDEO would also be dark.
