The study must have more detail than saying servers generally only use 6% of their capacity. In computer terms, is that disk space storage, processing power, electricity consumption - what? The study fails to account for the fact that data centers must have enough capacity to sustain high-load times and enough capacity for expansion... cost-effectiveness is also measured by how many times you have to 'upgrade' which is very expensive in a data center. Argh, these kinds of poorly reported studies are so darn frustrating. The media ought to know better, but they don't.

The greenhouse gas pollution is only created by the way the power is generated. if all the power was generated by wind power to run a data center... would it still be greenhouse gas polluter?
