Dell 7720 msata query

hi

i just bought a dell refurb 17r 7720, came with a 1tb hdd only with space for msata and another hdd.

I tried put in a ssd but when i went into the bios the laptop doesn't recognise the ssd, this was confirmed by dell as saying that the motherboard does not work with ssd, only msata.

So my query is if i get a large enough msata (say 256GB) can i just install windows 8 onto this and not use the hdd. or do i have to run the msata in cache with the hdd?

No you can load windows 8 on the msata drive and use the larger 1tb as a storage drive or pull the 1tb drive out all together.

so just to be clear i can run the laptop with only the msata installed on the laptop?

no need for hdd or anything

yes.. I have a msi laptop that has 3 msata drives in it and a 1tb regular drive for storage. at any time I can take all of them out but the msata drive with the os on it and boot up just fine.
