Hi

My Dell Inspiron 5459 was giving flickering issues. I have got the display cable changed and since then facing very peculiar issue.

When the Intel Graphics 520 is enabled, the display in BIOS (Dell splash logo) remains in laptop screen, but immediately once system enters WIN 10, laptop screen blacks out but lights, fan are working. I happened to connect an HDMI cable to external monitor, only to realise the display moves to the external monitor, while the laptop screen is still blank....
Also, some other observations:

  • No option to adjust brightness slider in windows
  • No option to extend/ duplicate screen

This makes be believe it is a software issue, not hardware.

The only fix I seem to find is in 2 situations:

SAFE MODE BOOT
DISABLE INTERL GRAPHCS 520 IN DEVICE MANAGER

Ive tried updating both the drivers for Intel and AMD, resetted Windows but nothing works. Below is the system info.

Many thanks
Anuj

This issues seems to be cropping up all over. I have been dealing with this for over a year now. Upgrades to Win10 cause this issue for us, and going into safemode and uninstalling the Graphics cards seems to resolve only temporarily until the driver is updated via winupdates or another OS upgrade. We have latitude 7280 and 7480 series from DELL with the Intel HD 620 card. I see this common thread all over the internet and 2 separate posts today with this same issue. If you connect another external display to the HDMI out do you get any visibility on that monitor? I usually get a black screen with a white cursor that is able to be moved on screen but no shortcuts work etc, for keys etc. All very strange. I have also been able to remote into the device using remote assist tools and the the desktop appears just fine. MS just deflects and DELL is useless.

When the laptop is connected to external monitor, the external monitor will not show the Dell BIOS screen, the Dell BIOS screen remains in the laptop screen. Once windows welcome screen comes, the display moves to the external monitor and the Dell screen is blank.

However, once i disable Intel graphics hd 520 from the external monitor view, and restart, both the Dell BIOS screen and the windows run normally from the Dell screen.

So it definitively looks like an issue with the Intel graphics driver.
