Dell i5 ati hd 5470 vs vaio i3 ati hd 5650 – Toms Hardware

planning to get a laptop.. pls help me choose between the following two...

dell inspiron core i5 450m, 500gb, 4gb ddr3, 15.6 wled screen, ati hd 5470 1gb

sony vaio core i3 350m, 500gb, 4gb ddr3, 15.6 full hd screen, ati hd 5650 1gb

what do you pan to do with it?

if you plan to do any gaming, i'd chose the second laptop.

if you don't plan on gaming, or doing any other 3d tasks, the first is a better choice.

The 5650 is at least 3~4 times more powerful than the 5470 in terms of raw GPU power, but the i5 450m is not 3~4 times more powerful than the i3 350m, is more like 20~30% more than the i3 350m.
So for optimum performance of average user that plays a bit games and stuff, I would recommend the Sony.
Since you can use the GPU power to cover up some of your CPU task if there's Direct Compute available.
