Dell inspiron 6000 laptop battery charging problem

my laptop works but only when plugged in to a outlet never off of one what can i do 2 fix this cheaply?

Dell inspiron 6000 is quite old and you probably have some good use out of its battery. But battery capacity decrease over time, so I think it is time for a new battery, that is if you don't want a full change of laptop.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 on which the battery light was flashing orange. When I searched to try to find out how to test the battery, I found that the battery was not charging. I did some further searching, and I found that my battery was subject to recall. I used the following links to key in my PPID number and order a replacement battery from Dell:
