I am looking for a gaming laptop to buy and I am choosing between :

Dell Inspriron 7559 with specs
i7 skylake
960M 4GB GPU
8 GB DDR3L
1TB HDD

upgrade to
16gb RAM and
256gb SSD 950 Pro PCIE

total cost is around $1520.

And the Alienware 15 with i7 skylake
Upgraded to 16gb DDR4
970M 3GB

If I pick this I will just add the SSD later. Total Cost w/o ssd = $1673 w/ ssd = $1957

Can you guys help me choose.
Thanks!

i would get the alienware, its a better value for the money, and it has a far better processor, and graphics card. The inspiron has a soldered in battery so it becomes a lemon when that battery reaches charge cycle capacity. And that bricks the laptop.

Not to mention all the proprietary SSD connectors in the 7559, it cannot use traditional SSD and only supports 2 drives.

Yes that's true but a lot of reviews saying that the keyboard, track pad, monitor etc is below average on Inspiron 7559 and comparing to Alienware 15 with the difference of $150. I think getting the Alienware 15 is a better option. I will just add the samsung 950 pro SSD later when I can.

The inspiron keyboard is spongy, and very cheap feeling, the trackpad has no way to be disabled and is super sensitive you can bump it and delete what you typed. And the screen is a very low end Matte model, i prefer glossy now for the amazing colors.

I just got a 15 r2 and Im really happy with it . I got mine super cheap so I could not pass up the one I got . I have the basic 15 with i5 6300 8gb ram 965m 1 tb HD. Im really surprised with the performance . I already upgraded HD with a Evo 850 500gb . So Im sure with the i7 and 970m you should be more then happy with it . It is also set to go into next level gaming like VR.

Sorry but that is not true. You can remove and replace the battery on the 7559. And you can perform maintenance on pretty much every aspect of it. https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/inspiron-15-7559-laptop_Service%20Manual_en-us.pdf
