Hello everyone,

I'm planning to buy a new laptop this summer which will be good for gaming and maybe in the future 3d modelling (if those laptops are not good for 3d modelling please say so). Currently I'm not sure which one to buy: the Dell Inspiron 7567 or the Lenovo Legion Y520. The reason why I'm making my own thread about this is because I live in the Netherlands and the specs/price are a little bit different here. For example: the Lenovo with a 1050ti and the Dell with an IPS screen are not availeble here.

The Dell is €1300 (10% off right now) and you get an i7, 16GB of RAM, a 1050ti, 1256GB of storage and a TN panel. (http://www.dell.com/nl/p/inspiron-15-7567-laptop/pd?ref=PD_OC)

The Lenovo gives you for €1200 (5% off right now) an i7, 16 GB of RAM, a 1050, 1128GB of storage and an IPS panel. (http://www3.lenovo.com/nl/nl/laptops/ideapad/legion-y-series/Lenovo-Y520-15IKBN/p/88GMY500808)

So the thing is: what's more worth it for me? The 1050ti with a 'bad' screen or a regular 1050 with an IPS screen which is considered to be better. They are both about the same price right now, but the Lenovo is €30 cheaper.

Thanks for the help

Solution
If you are daring enough, then you can replace the TN panel screen on the Dell Inspiron 7567 with an IPS panel screen by yourself. If not, then the alternative is to bring the laptop to a laptop repair shop and have them do it for you.

The following video demonstrates how to do so and the IPS panel screen part used is NV156FHM-N42 which comes in two versions; matte and glossy. It is manufactured by LG Philips. A link is provided below to a US site that sells the screen, but you need to search for the screen in your country.

An alternative screen is the B156HAN01.2 which is manufactured by AUO. The video below...
1050ti with a bad screen is the best choice imo.the 1050ti is way way faster than the 1050 and is worth more than a good screen as you can always get a monitor if u want something better but will never able to upgrade the graphic card if u end regretting the 1050.or u can go for the acer vx15 which have the pros of both world(a gtx 1050ti,an i7 and ips screen).

The Acer vx15 with a 1050ti is €1350 here, doesn't come with a discount and I personlly don't like the design. But I think you're right about the performance being more important than the screen. It's just a shame that Lenovo doesn't bring the 1050ti to the Netherlands, since I would buy it instantly.

NOTE - Replacing the screen will void your warranty.

Solution
The Lenovo Legion Y520 has pretty short battery life. Lenovo claims 4 hours and reviews have more or less stated the battery can last between 3.5 and 4 hours with average usage (no games). Reviews states the Dell gets about 7 to 8 hours of battery life based on average usage.

Note - The actual battery life will vary based on what you do.

well the acer is the way to go if u want both an ips and gtx 1050ti.pretty sure u can live with the design.if u still want a good looking laptop then go for the dell

I seen and have the Inspiron 15 7567 with IPS and TN panel. You can BARELY notice the difference between them.
Pros & Cons of the Inspiron 15 7567

*Pros*
Battery
Graphics Card
Accessibility (Back)

*Cons*
Loud when playing games (Expected)
Design (More detail below)
Screen (More detail below)

The battery on the Inspiron 15 7567 is amazing. I was browsing and watching youtube for at least 7-6 hours and when I game I set my settings to high performance mode, I got around 3-2 hours. I've been playing a few games and here's my list.
Dota2 UltraSettings - 100-200fps
PUBG UltraSettings - 50-60fps
Overwatch UltraSettings - 60-70fps
Getting into the Inspiron 15 7567 is SUPER easy. Like what Linus said, All it takes is ONE screw.
Laptop is loud when playing games (expected) and this is the only downfall for me is the design. It has sharp edges (won't cut you) that will hurt over time if you're on it for a long time. If you're going to college like me and bought a backpack that can hold 15.6 laptops then be VERY careful about them. The width of the laptop should not be underestimated. I had to cut these straps to hold my laptop. But I looooove the the clean design of the Inspiron 15 7567.

Ok the big deal here is the TN and IPS that everyone keeps complaining. TBH I don't see a big difference between them. If you're gonna play games and not show off you're laptop then the Inspiron is the right choice. But if you're going to do a lot of drawing, making videos, and designing stuff then the Inspiron 15 7567 is not for you. The color accruacy is kind of bad. Black is harsh on the TN and even with the IPS panel. I have the IPS on the Inspiron and man the color accuracy is poor on that thing. I seen the TN panel in person and there's not that much of a difference between them. Angles on the TN are bad but seriously, if you've been using a TN panel for you're whole life then it won't even bother you. I have an TN Acer Monitor at home and they're almost the same.

In conclusion I would consider the Inspiron 15 7567. I hate the Lenovo design
