Dell Inspiron Laptop battery won't charge

Dell inspiron 1440 battery won't charge. I have to leave it plugged in all the time. Read that I should download Bios from dell, but that requires at least a 10% charge in the battery. Mine is zero. Battery, power cord and adapter, are one to two years old.

in here it says to hit F3 to check the battery status and health.

depending on usage chance are the battery has died.

If you get a new battery, you need to let it run down every so often and re-charge it make it last more then 2 years.

If the laptop is plugged in most of the time to 110VAC with very little usage coming directly from the battery, as in not plugged in to AC power, the battery won't last long and won't charge fully if you do decide to use it.
