Dell Inspiron Mini 1011 Unable to Shut Down

Hello,
I'm pretty concerned with my laptop being unable to shut down although I've clicked the shut down button. There's no notifications of unclosed programmes or any sort at all, so I'm clueless of what the problem is. When I click Hibernate or Sleep, there's no problem but it's weird that the laptop doesn't respond when I click Shut Down. Help 🙁 Thanks in advance!

There is a background service/application that is preventing the system from shutting down. When it won't exit memory and allow Windows to proceed with ending your session, that is what happens.

The hard part is pinpointing which program or service it is.
