Dell latitude cursor frozen, no way to get to safe mode

Not sure it turns off completely. When I turn it back on I get the enter password screen. Cursor already frozen.

You have to get it to completely power off. Either pull the power cord and the battery and leave it that way for about 5 min. Or let leave the power cord out and wait for the battery to fully drain. Once off, let it charge a little (if needed) and then try turning it back on.

Should it still at this point have a stuck cursor, then ... you may need to attach an external mouse to get through the first steps here... Try the following and see if it fixes it...

1. Go into "Control Panel".
2. Click "Hardware and Sound".
3. Now click "Mouse and Touchpad".
4. Now go to "Additional mouse options".
5. The Mouse Properties window will open. In here click on your device.
6. Make sure your device is set to enabled. If it isn't then click "Enable Device".
7. Exit both that screen and "Control Panel".

Also, you might want to check for updates to your drivers, including the Synaptics drivers.

If this does not help, and an external mouse works fine, then it may well be a hardware issue.
