Solved! Dell Precision 5510 keyboard intermittently non-responsive

Dell precision 5510 / XPS 15 keyboard randomly stops working. Restarting solves the issue temporarily.

I have installed all drivers and updated Bios and the issue seemed to go away for a few days, but this may be coincidence as there is no clear action that causes the keyboard to stop responding.

Please any help will be really appreciated.

Well just installing drivers won't resolve it if the drivers are the problem. Try the following...

1. Uninstall the keyboard driver.
2. Reboot the computer (without reinstalling the driver).
3. When it restarts, it should reinstall the driver on its own.

If this doesn't work, you may wish to try connecting/reconnecting an external keyboard and see if it works fine. If it does, then it could be the keys themselves that are the issue.

Additionally, if your device uses one, you may want to try updating the Synaptics Driver if the above doesn't help.

You may also want to check the device for malware, viruses, etc., which can interfere with normal operation.

Thank you for your response. I have tried those steps above. It did not help. My device doesn't use the Synaptics driver. I have done a full virus scan and came up with no issues.

It is a weird issue because it doesnt happen immediately and sometimes I can use my laptop for hours with no issues.

Do you have any more thoughts?

You said you did a virus scan, what about malware? Also, try starting up the computer in "Safe Mode" and see if it works fine in there.
