RAM & SSD will definitely speed it up a bit, but the processor is so old that I wouldn't expect huge gains in day-to-day usability. You could pick up a modern i3 for ~$300 and add an SSD to that system as well.

Yes, that system is DDR2-800 as Crucial's site says.

It is gonna be used for browsing, light office stuff only with Win 7. (No linux for some resasons)
How much acceleration do you think could be achieved with SSD & RAM upgrade - in boot, browsing, office load times?

(also, perhaps later, if newer Windows has to be installed and driver issues emerge, perhaps the SSD could be placed into a new laptop)

All will be improved significantly. I put a 120G SSD in a C2D (the slowest one - 1.66 GHz) and it boots in ~10 seconds, loads Chrome instantly (multiple-tab browsing is slow, but improved - it only has 2G RAM as well), and office applications snap right open. It's still slow, but it feels like the computer was moved ahead a couple years in performance.

Definitely, although Windows will have to be completely reinstalled on the drive when moved to a new computer.
