desktop to TV to soundbar

I am planning to buy a soundbar and want to make it work with existing desktop and TV system.
I am planning to make the connections like this:
1. connect Desktop with TV via HDMI. this will transfer the audio/video from desktop to TV
2. Then connect the TV with soundbar via digital/optical audio out port.

will this connections work for both audio/video?

Yes, they will work. Select a soundbar with optical in available.
