Desktop vs laptop (Asus K55VM)

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?

3. What screen resolution do you want?

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop? mostly a desktop replacement. But i have just joined my first job and dont know how much i might have to carry it around

5. How much battery life do you need?

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)? Yes I want to play games and not worry about my config for the next few years

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.) programming

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need? Not an issue I have an external 2 TB HDD

I was considering a Asus K55VM. It costs approx 56,000

I have a laptop given by the company but as expected its very restrictive
I recently got burned when I had a lot of trouble while moving my desktop from my hostel to home. I am not at my home town anymore.
I am unsure whether to buy a costly laptop like the K55VM or to buy a cheaper desktop and if the need arises later a non gaming laptop

If it's in your budget and you would want to work with HD content and some games, that Asus is a good pick.

Keep in mind that a laptop is a lot harder to impossible to upgrade, so you'd want to buy the best you can afford. Spending less now on something that will feel slow or not do what you want it to is cheaper than buying a laptop now and a second one in a few years.

gaming is the only thing that i would stress the computer with. considering that, i wont have a problem playing a game at medium settings 2-3 years down the line.

would buying a gaming desktop and a cheap(er) laptop for the occasional mobility turn out cheaper than a gaming laptop?

Would be about the same unless you get a much cheaper laptop and build your own system. A cheap gaming system is about $500-600, same for a laptop.
