No, its not just you. Mine sucks Nads too.

D2:LoD runs like my Grandmother's car, and the mouse is jerky as hell. Im not sure if 8.1 even installed right, as my setup still shows that it is 8.0.

Now Im wondering if I can TELL which version I have of direct X, since I may be USING the setup OF the 8.0. Anyone know where I can find out?

Plus, My driver says the file is nvdisp.drv version 4.13!!!

What the heck is the new 23.11's supposed to show if they DID go in right?

When I installed the 23.11s, I did it this way..

I set the video card to generic in the display settings and rebooted, went to the uninstall, deinstalled the Nvidia drivers, rebooted, let it find the card, browsed to the new drivers in the folder for the Find new Hardware update and then let it go from there..

Do you have to do that with these new drivers or does it auto over-write?

Also, Im running an Asus P133 MB till my new system components finish arriving, and this is going to the kids.
Should I update to the newest 4-1's from VIA as well???????

Would THAT help any??

To Be or Not to be... DAMN but that is confusing!

To check your DirectX version:

Start/Run. Type DXDIAG. Hit Enter.

Installing nVidia drivers:

Extract them into a folder. The easiest way is to create a new folder, right-click on the installation file, and then drag it to the folder. Then choose to extract the files from the right-click menu.

Uninstall the old drivers, with Add/Remove Programs. Run Detonator Destroyer to remove all traces of the old drivers.

http://www.guru3d.com/detonator-destroyer/

Reboot.

Install the video card as Standard VGA.

Reboot.

Install the video card drivers, manually. Do not allow the self-extracting .exe to install the drivers for you ... this is often corrupted. Browse to the folder that contains the extracted drivers, and select your display adapter.

Reboot.

Afterwards, right-click on the desktop, and choose Properties. Then, Settings/Advanced. Set your preference for the resolution, color, and refresh rate.

Under the tab that shows your video card model, you'll find a window with the Driver Version Information.

Under the Additional Properties button, you'll be able to adjust the settings for Direct3D and OpenGL. You might also find this program helpful for tweaking the drivers:

http://www.guru3d.com/geforcetweakutility/

(However, it does not yet work properly with the 23.11 driver set. You'll need a newer, beta version of the program that should be released soon.)

Note: If your mouse is jerky, you may have to uninstall the driver, and then allow Windows to redetect the device.

"Should I update to the newest 4-1's from VIA as well???????"

If you are running a VIA chipset, it couldn't hurt.

I haven't seen any problems with the 23.11's in Win98, if the card is installed correctly. There are people having a problem with the new driver in WinXP ... but not ordinarily, in Win9x. I myself am running the driver in Win2K without any problems.

The same goes for DirectX 8.1, if it is the final version, and not one of the beta's.

Thankee Toe..

Now, The thing is, My DXDiag SAYS its 8.0, but when I go to the updater page for Windows, it's not THERE anymore, and my Direct X log shows it being altered the night I installed it..

I dun get it.

Maybe you should try to reinstall it. The installation might have failed using Windows Update.
