Dim video with full audio

I have a samsung un40eh5300fxza that has sound and very little video you have to turn all lights off and will only see a dim picture

is it new? old?

was it always dim? or is this a new issue?

is brightness turned all the way up? is your video mode set to cinema or other dim mode?

if it is older, was once working fine and the settings arent an issue... then i would say the backlight is not working. this would be akin to a picture so dim that even in darkness you can barely see a thing on the screen.
