Documents wont open

I have windows 8 and all of a sudden my documents, excel etc. won't open. It acts like it wants to open and says 'opening in protected view' but then just times out. Any suggestions?

did you have full ownership of them check in the settings and you could try to do a office repair from the had and remove software for the office .

Brushing a key or keys can mess up your settings. Simply threatening Windows with action fixes problems. Open the properties of an Excel file and you may find the correct settings. Leave unchanged, close the window and it works correctly.
Open Task Manager and then close it and the app will work without taking any action.
That is all easier than a repair process.
