does my laptop work for xbox one usage?

No. You cannot use it to play Xbox games. The vast majority of laptops only have video out. The only exceptions are Alienware laptops released in the past few years which can has a HDMI video in port.

If it is Windows 10 and it has the Xbox App install then you can just stream it to your laptop..given that the school didn't lock down the laptop
