DVD drive ejects the disc, what should I do?

DVD drive is not working the moment I insert a disc it's get ejected, should I replace it or get a external drive

how old is the laptop as there is at least 2 different versions of connectors that connects the drive to the motherboard? make & model# of the laptop?
