It has the Intel Core i5-5200U processor in addition to the Nvidia GeForce 940M Graphics with 4GB Dedicated DDR3 VRAM plus 8 GB RAM which is actually good. This laptop has an excellent screen resolution and decent battery life. It should do well in video editing and programming.
As you mentioned SSD, yes solid state drives do help providing a little speed in operation, but at $600, you won't get a decent system like this with a SSD as they are on the more expensive side.
