I am not on any of the social networking sites. But this survey smells like what comes out of a the south end of a north facing cow.

A more accurate title would be "60% say they are ready to dump site".

I dont understand why people are even still on there. With all the people getting canned, divorces, and general loss of time actually hanging with people, you would think those days would pass. 4 months of myspace back in HS taught me how much of a waste of time this stuff can become.

[citation][nom]eddieroolz[/nom]Well you can't possibly survey all or even half of a 400million. 1600 might be a small sample size, but it's a start. In related news, I have already dumped facebook. Not looking back.[/citation]

Facebook themselves could do a decent servey for ALL users.
They are the network after all.

I still think the benefits of the network outweigh the negatives, at least for the average user. Facebook may be insecure, but as several people have said, it's a great medium for connecting to people you haven't heard from in awhile. I constantly use it to talk to my friends that don't have cells or are too far away for me to get ahold of easily.

I dont think FB is going anywhere. I hate all that it stands for....yet I check in 2-4 times a day to see what my buddies are up to. Plus, pretty much every business out there is using it. I think all this privacy stuff will do is maybe make people stop putting semi-private stuff on there. No more pictures of your new house and such.

In other news, back in WoW 90% of the people I knew wanted to quit WoW, but only a few of us did.

When something becomes part of your daily life, it's hard to quit, even if you want to.

[citation][nom]1337_b0i[/nom]Only 1600 users? That doesn't indicate much. I do hope that facebook takes this more seriously than I do though (their privacy sucks.)[/citation]

Please learn some statistics before you comment on the validity of the study. 1600 users is plenty large for a survey like this.

[REPLYING TO HUNTER844]
JohnnyLucky :

There is no privacy on the web.
/////
Incorrect.
Tell me, where am I right now?
[/Replying tO hunter844]

Do you really want me to tell the people where you are? There are many like us who know how to work about the computer and online. Ok, I'll tell them.

You are in Cabot arkansas, you are 25 years old,
you like to play video games.
I checked your profile, and googled searched
your user name hunter844, that search came up your youtube channel which is here
http://www.youtube.com/user/hunter844

i thought you were in norway as stated by your youtube page, but you are also a member of avs forums and you are curious about blue rays as shown by your post on that site
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=965905

You are also a fan of football, as i clicked on your homepage from the avs forum and it linked to this site
http://www.woopig.net/board/

you are also a pretty nice guy it seems as viewing one of your threads on the avs forum you apologized for something you did wrong so that shows you have a bit of niceness in you.

Your avs profile as with your profile on this site both state you are from cabot , Ar.

You also have an account on dstalk.com in which you posted a topic 5/3/2010 that reads

--"Is it me or has Discovery just completely dropped programming support for this channel? There were several shows on it I used to like and now it's just a bunch of filler junk most of which has nothing to do with being "green"."

from that i can see you like to watch tv and the discovery channel which likely means you have an analytical personality or you like learning and observing things.

You also have an account on ROBLOX
http://www.roblox.com/User.aspx?ID=1568708

You also like to play poke and have an online account
http://officialpokerrankings.com/pokerstars/hunter844/poker/results/4F3A0113DDE24E56A51F987585179F3E.html?t=2

I could go on, but i think you get the point, there is no privacy on the web.

Anyone else want me to tell them where they are? lollllll

Well people will leave when a less bloated alternative catches on. That's usually how it goes, corporate bloatedness gets beat when a simpler one comes along. I think people in general dislike corporations, so its a neverending process of birth and rebirth.

Lol, point well made.
To answer your question though (anyone else?), yes, I would love a well written summary of my web personality!

They are crazy if they think this is indicative of the true long term implications. People get angry really quickly when it comes to this kind of thing, but they tend to forget even faster. Facebook isn't going anywhere. Not until something better shows up.

Already deleted Facebook two weeks ago now. My wife still has it, and practically everyone else I know, but it seems like such a waste of time ... sure it helps connect people ... but I am convinced that it has made the population even more stupid.

30-percent said it's highly likely and another 30-percent said "it's a possibility"

And the title of this article is "End of Facebook Near? 60% Ready to Dump Site" from 1600 users surveyed. Saying it's a possibility doesn't count as ready to leave the site at the drop of a hat. This is hardly the end of Facebook and this news article is just trying to stir up news from one survey. This is a hyperbole. What's our alternative to Facebook? No way in hell I'm going back to Myspace.
