Erratic cursor movement

My cursor moves erratically all over the screen and am unable to use touch screen or pad. The computer is pretty much unusable when it does this. The cursor bounces around everywhere. Please help!!!

Does it do this only sometimes? What's your laptop?

Could be something to do with your track pad.

NukaB, thank you for responding to my question. My laptop is a Dell XPS L502X. The erratic movement is continuous when there is a mouse plugged in. When there I no mouse, it does it most of the time, but there are times when it doesn't. The cursor bounces around and clicks on things I don't want it to.

I do regular upgrades, but I'm not sure about the latest drivers. Honestly, I know very little about computers, but I can follow troubleshooting instructions.

NukaB, thank you for your response and help, I will take it to a computer expert and have it repaired. This is beyond what I can do.

Yea. To be honest problems that aren't to do with general hardware aren't my field. Not that i have a field of expertise...
