Evo 4s battery?

The phone I have is pretty much brand new except the battery life sucks. well i've been charging it all day today and about an hour ago in the middle of a text message (phone is still on charger and at 30%) it turns off. it hasnt turned back on. I still have it on the charger and a little red light is blinking. Does anyone know what's going on?

If it's brand new, take it back.

Sounds like a faulty battery.
