[citation][nom]kutark[/nom]I have, its called Blizzard Entertainment. Only a brief look at whats happening with Starcraft 3 is evidence enough that the entire industry, at least on the publisher side, has gone off the pier. Developers need to reach down deep and grab hold of their stones and start getting WRITTEN contracts limiting publisher influence on their products.[/citation]

While I agree with your point, how does that blizzard example have anything to do with your point? Blizzard is both developer and publisher for their products, so how exactly does a written contract with themselves change anything?
It'd be like me having a written agreement with myself to do the laundry this weekend...won't make a difference unless I wanna do it anyway.

"Now that the team is in control of the games and brands, we can ensure that the fans are treated as well as they deserve."

I translate that as: "Sorry we bent over the PC users...it wasn't our call."

...I hope I'm right.

The EA angle worries me a little, but hopefully this works out. I'm betting they put out a couple of really good games before the marketting execs get their hands on the company and start forcing DRM / rushed products out. Then the devs leave again, repeat cycle.

@banthracis - Blizzard is a developer, but they aren't the publisher they used to be. They are a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision now. They were part of the deal when Activision bought Vivendi Universal and proceeded to shut down many a great small studios. If you want to see what kind of impact Activision has had on Blizzard since the purchase simply stroll to your grocery market and buy some of the World of Warcraft branded food and drink products. Never mind the fact that it was fairly obvious that wrath of the lich king expansion was obviously rushed for money's sake. Activision is stain on the face of gaming. Nothing like a company being run by a man that openly states that they won't pursue any game that, and I quote, "cannot be exploited on a yearly basis." Look up that quote. How that man is still the CEO, I'll never know because if I was on that board I would have demanded a vote of no confidence.

Cant say I am impressed or waiting for anything special, remember these guys SOLD IW to activision in the first place, when they left 2012 after making MoH:AA they formed IW, after the success of CoD & CoD 2 they then sold IW to Activision for Millions. They then sold out their real fan base that made them what they are with MW2, and basically threw their loyal PC customers out with the dish water.

Their new company wont be interested in supporting PC's, they will be concentrating on the console market, the only good thing I can actually see coming from all this is Activision looking at the bad press they have had over MW2 and the troubles at IW will reintroduce full PC support blaming the lack of true PC support on MW2 was Zampella and West's fault, BS of course but hey if it gives us a true PC game again I care not :)

Blizzard's publishing and developing is handled internally by themselves. They are effectively their own separate company and handle everything related to their own games.

Even under Vivendi, blizzard controlled everything they did themselves.

There are also some news articles quoting Chris Metzen and Michael Morhaime stating the same stuff back around the time of the merger.

Blizzard product placement was around long before activision. Classic example, the Chinese coke commercials in 2006. Also, while you may think Lich King was rushed, a GREAT majority of the player base was clamoring for more content/expansions long before it came out. That probably had a bigger affect on release speed.

The announcement to do yearly expansions was pre merger and we all know how that turned out.

Why EA?! Why not Ubisoft (Yes I know, Online DRM, but ubisoft had some major creative projects ever since 1995, Rayman; POD; Earth 2140; Heroes of Might and Magic 2 and etc.)?

[citation][nom]back_by_demand[/nom]OK, I dont care who makes it but the next company to release a good sequel to Battlefield Vietnam gets my loyal attention.I want my BFV2[/citation]

I totally agree. That was a good game.
