So I have a Samsung 27" LED monitor with one HDMI input and one VGA input. I connect my desktop computer(Windows 10) to the monitor with HDMI just fine, never any issues, but when I connect either my Dell work laptop(Win10) or HP private laptop(Win10) with HDMI to the monitor, the laptops will recognise the Samsung monitor just fine but "2 out of 3 times" connecting, the display will remain blank. Changing display mode doesn't help (Extend, duplicate etc.). Restarting/powering off and on the laptop or the monitor doesn't help. This issue does not happen when using VGA. I've tried using different HDMI cables but same result.
So far I've found that when it happens, connecting with VGA and then back to HDMI will bring the picture back. Recently connecting the HDMI back to the desktop and then back to the laptop got the picture showing again, though this hasn't always helped

Solution

Found possible solution/answer. Realised I've never tried completely powering off the monitor. Display problem happened, unplugged monitor and plugged back in, voila! Seems the Samsung monitor as an issue when switching from desktop to laptop while in use... Removing power source from monitor resets it.

Power setting is usually always on max brightness with AC and battery. Problem occurs both on AC and battery.

Smells of a resolution issue to me like through HDMI it is trying to set a different resolution than the monitor supports but through VGA it uses a different resolution so it works. Then switching back it retains the correct resolution. I don't know... but something to play with?
