I am trying to transfer an external Seagate hard drive to an Asus laptop. It's not being recognized, and there is no option to change the drive or path. It's grayed out. I can see the usb Seagate under device manager under disk drives so it is not dead. I don't want to do convert to disk management, because I don't know enough about that. Thanks

Solution

Hello Techques,

If your hard drive is not dead, then there may be chances that it is affected by the virus infection. If your system get affected by the virus, it may also affect your Seagate hard drive. This may lead to the Seagate hard drive become unrecognized by the Windows... For this, you can run a perfect antivirus to clean out all the viruses.

Hope it will work for you...

Good Luck!!!

ok i can see it now...previously dns was not resolving the site...lol...

anywayss........

first of all...ur hdd is not dead(else it wont be reflecting in disk management)...and there is no virus...
ur mbr has been converted to gpt as u can see in disk management...
and there is no "convert to disk management"...its "convert to dynamic disk"...u have been misquoting all along...donno why...
ok...so...heres how its going to work...
A disk on a computer is usually partitioned in either MBR or GPT (two different partition table). Those partitions are then formatted with a file system, such as FAT, EXT2 and NTFS....

over here u cant see it as it is gpt...which u need to convert to ntfs...
there are many ways to do tht...but a relatively easier way is through 3rd party software...
download and install Mini Tool Partition Wizard...its one of the best softwares out there...check the instruction page and u will be able to convert to ntfs easily...

keep us posted...

Hi Techques,

Your question is confusing; can you please answer some of my questions so that I can help you out.

If your hard drive is appearing in the device manager and showing update drive software issue, then why you don’t update the driver?

Have you tried check disk command to detect the issue with the hard drive?

[chkdsk H (drive name): /F (type f to fix error)]

If you haven’t tried the above remedies, then you should go through them and see if your drive starts working properly.

Thanks, I will try your solution later. I was quoting it wrong, because in my first post I was talking about what it said when I was in device manager. When I talked to Asus in their chat I said dynamic, and the person told me it was dead.

i am not able to open the image right now...but i can pretty much understand what it says...
at this stage, before converting the disk from raw to ntfs, i will suggest u to recover the data first...

this is one of the best softwares out there... http://www.m3datarecovery.com/
this is a step by step instruction... http://www.m3datarecovery.com/data-recovery/online-help...
the method you should be looking for is..."How to recover deleted or lost partition?"....
it is towards the middle of the instruction page...

wats the volume of the hdd???...is it more than 2tb???

I don't have it in front of me, but it's Seagate from a Toshiba laptop.

I was able to get some of my data to show up using m3, but it's in a folder called lost data. The files that I've clicked on won't open. Is there anything I can do to use the data? It says available offline.

I recovered my data using the full version of M3 Recovery. :) A tech worked on it for five hours last night and couldn't open my files. He said that they would have a specialist work on my data today, and he spent about two hours fixing things. Thanks
