External laptop battery?

Hello,

Next year, I'll go to college, and my actual PC will never be able to last a full day of work without being charged. I already went to a "test class" and saw everyone with a MacBook. But, as I'm not that rich, I'm trying to find something that might do the trick.

Because I'm into light gaming, I looked at the 800€ Dell Inspiron, which seems to be really good, but has poor battery life, just like mine, despite having 74mWh (mine has 47mWh).

I'm actually concerned about the "up to 500 cycles".

What do you guys think? Is it a good or a terrible idea?

Just checking that the Dell doesn't have an expanded battery option? The Dell Latitudes that my corporation provides come with a larger battery that sticks out the back a bit, but lasts a very long time - I've had a (admittedly careful) 10 hour day out of them when I've gone to another site, forgotten my power supply and there's been no docking stations available before.

500 cycles would be 2+ years of college attendance? Your laptop battery would be well past it's best by then also - sounds okay to me.

If I buy this laptop plus a battery it'll cost more than 900€, which is a bit higher than my budget at the moment, but it would be the best option.

Battery life is altered by so many things - big battery capacity / small screen that you are prepared to dim the brightness a bit / SSD will give you the best chance, but it all comes down to the apps you will run, the quality of wi-fi signal if you use it, the cleanliness of the Windows install so there's no bloat taking up CPU in the background - all sorts of things.
I think the Inspiron does not have the expanded battery option, sorry. The Latitudes we use have a nVidia discrete card + integrated graphics for on battery with an i5 CPU - maybe look for a second hand one + a big battery? Just an idea.

Well, If I'm going for the external battery option, might aswell keeping my actual PC.
