external mic doesnt work hp 15 notebook

I bought a Razor gaming headset with USB power and headphone and microphone 3.5mm auxiliary connections. My HP 15-d030nr has 1 aux jack for a combo headset and mic. When I plug in the Headset piece it works fine, but when I plug in the mic piece it doesn't detect it and it doesn't work. All of my stuff is up-to-date and I've never dropped the computer. Also I have allowed applications to take exclusive control of this device.

Thanks for the reply. This was the first thing I though to do but have seen people say that it doesn't work. Despite that, I think I'm going to try it. For $6 if it doesn't it's no big loss.

Just to be sure, the Razor has two cables, one for the headphones and one for the microphone. And your laptop has a combo jack, headset and microphone. If it's your configuration, you need the cable I'm referring to.

That will probably be the solution. Once I get the adapter and try it I will post my results here.

Hi, did this work for you, i have bought a new Se X1 condenser mic, and i cant get it to work, but i have only tried with a 2-pin splitter wich obviously did not work!

Would be gratefull if you could answer me!

Sorry you're having trouble, but I never actually got around to trying it. I have long since built a gaming pc.
