External Microphone on Dell Inspiron Gaming not Detected

My external microphone used to work until I updated Windows 10. Ive tried everything from updating audio drivers, giving applications permission to use the microphone and using a microphone that should have worked in the first place. My laptop isnt detecting any external microphones and after scouring the internet for more than an hour I cant find any solution to my problem. Any input is much appreciated

how does this external microphone plug into your computer?
Have you checked to see if the hardware is disabled in sound settings?
Have you made sure you have the absolute latest updates to Windows?
