Looking at photos from Facebook's mobile app has always been a nightmare, no matter the quality of your connection.
When something's terribly slow, you expect to have a good quality of image in compensation and if the quality is poor, you expect it to be fast to load, well, Facebook makes it slow AND crappy (downsampled to ridiculously low resolution). With G+, photo albums work like a charm :-D
