G+ already has this.

It's OK for G+ to do this as hardly anyone ever uses it... But with FB... The map will just be a bright blue mass as so many people use it and it doesn't always recognise when users aren't actually using it but just haven't logged off and so will still show them up.

As long as they don't turn it on by default, I don't really care, I'm not gonna use it. I have all my privacy settings turned on (as private as they can be anyway).

I´ve been saying for a long time now that this social stuff like Facebook (and others) are a bad idea and are getting out of control, this article is another example.
