Hi, I have an Acer Aspire notebook and have been trying to create a factory back up on Princo DVD-R 4.7GB 16x speed discs. program completes the writing to disc but at approx 80 per cent of verfifying tells me the process cannot be completed and to insert a new disk and try again. I have now tried four brand new DVDs with the same result. Any idea what the problem is?
Many thanks

I've heard of others having problems with the Acer software.

FYI, if your still under Warranty I think you can buy a Windows Recovery disc for $20 from Acer.

*For $40 you can also get the DIGITAL DOWNLOAD version of Windows 8. I just did that for my dad.

Windows 8 Pro upgrade:
- 32-bit to 32-bit, or 64-bit to 64-bit only
- XP, Vista or Windows 7
- Only Windows 7 can keep applications

What I did:
1) Followed the instructions to get the upgrade online
2) DOWNLOADED the IMAGE of W8 Pro
3) BURNED it to a DVD (now you have a recovery disc too)
4) Made a note of current applications to reinstall
5) COPIED any important data to another drive
6) Installed W8 Pro (in this case upgraded Vista)
7) check DEVICE MANAGER for missing drivers (found one, Google the name and discovered it was probably my Ricoh media player. Used the Vista drivers from my laptop site and they worked)

8) Install Stardock's START8 to replace the Start Menu.

*FYI, this upgrade deal for any legal copy of XP/Vista/7 to Windows 8 Pro expires Jan 31st 2013.

Other:
My dad's Vista laptop booted far, far quicker. He also only had 2GB of RAM and Windows 8 uses memory much better than Vista and slightly better than 7. Once we reinstalled his programs and put on START8 it feels like Windows 7 and it feels much faster than Vista!

Hi, thanks for that. Yes it says it will need 4 disks but I have yet to make it past the 80 per cent mark verification of disk 1. Bought a 16 gb flash drive today but apparently this computer (V5-4 series) doesn't have the download to USB option. The first DVD that I backed up today lists 14 files including Boot and zero space left on the disk.
Should I try proceeding through the other 3 disks to see what happens?

I don't think that would work.

Any chance you're getting an error code when you get the error message? I came across this article: http://acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3410/related/1 They are saying that there are cases when another type of DVD is needed. Maybe give it a try with some good quality rewritable ones? (That way, if it still fails, at least you can reuse the disks...)

I'm sorry that it doesn't have the USB drive option. I looked whether a newer version of the eRecovery software is available for download, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe you could check if you have update options for the Acer software, but I don't have high hopes that would help with this...
Hmm, on the driver download page http://www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/drivers there is that red link saying "Hot!!! New Acer Updater v1.02.3502". Maybe you should give it a try and see if it has an update for eRecovery.

Thanks for the advice. I'm sorry too it doesn't have a USB option. Will hunt around for some better quality DVDs and try again.

many thanks to all who answered my cry for help. Am still looking around for some high quality DVDs but apparently need to go into a "specialist" shop here in Bangkok as all the places I've been too so far in my part of Bangkok only stock princo.
Photonboy, thanks for your suggestion but I have windows7 not windows8 and am not particularly interested in upgrading - don't need a touchscreen program
thanks, will be back when I have bought the disks
