Any chance you're getting an error code when you get the error message? I came across this article:
http/acer--uk.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3410/related/1 They are saying that there are cases when another type of DVD is needed. Maybe give it a try with some good quality rewritable ones? (That way, if it still fails, at least you can reuse the disks...)
I'm sorry that it doesn't have the USB drive option. I looked whether a newer version of the eRecovery software is available for download, but it doesn't seem to be the case. Maybe you could check if you have update options for the Acer software, but I don't have high hopes that would help with this...
Hmm, on the driver download page
http/www.acer.co.uk/ac/en/GB/content/drivers there is that red link saying "Hot!!! New Acer Updater v1.02.3502". Maybe you should give it a try and see if it has an update for eRecovery.
