FAQ - Read before buying / considering a laptop

1. What is your budget?
The lesser the better - but max: 3000NZD = roughly 2400 U.S

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
Ideally with additional number pad on the keyboard. 17.1 inch-ish~

3. What screen resolution do you want?
The Higher the better

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Yes~! as an Architect graduate, I travel a lot n yet require heavy power hardware.

5. How much battery life do you need?
The Longer the better, but Ideally anywhere between 2 -3 hours

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Time to time, Yea why not~! and preferably high setting

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Mostly heavy duty task.. 3dsmax for animation renders, high level photo realistic renders, AutoCAD (with 3D), Sketchup, Revit
Architecture, Video / photo editing,

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
500GB at least

As long as possible, I perfer it has the best cooling system

Doesn't matter, as I am more likely to use Ext Harddrive for most of my storage

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
I set my eye on Asus G74SX. but curious to any other suggestion

13. What country do you live in?
New Zealand, Australia

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
i7 processing unit, best cooling airflow, a universal keyboard layout (nothing fancy as i use ctrl, shift, alt key A LOT~!), more USB port,

G74 is probably your best deal.
Check if you can find Sager NP8170,that's a good alternative(no backlit keyboard though)

I look into it.. n sad to say~ I cant get my hand of it in this part of the world. =-= No one selling it in NZ. thank you for your reply

Yea I looked into that ... My god~!! in my part of the world the price for that laptop sky rocket~!! its out of my league to be honest with you. But Thank you for your voice.

PS. Was wondering if you compare AW M17x with Asus G74SX... is there really much different? I looked into the review but couldnt really catch the differences in performance. we are only talking M17x, 30 second faster ...... right?

It depends on how you configure M17x.
With the stock config,you get GTX 560 which is the same GPU used in G74,but with higher configs,you can get GTX 580M/HD 6970M/6990M which are notably faster than 560M.

I see. Now come the question: Is the extra speed really worth the $600 NZD ($500 USD) extra?

I understand the term: "you get what you've paid for"
but there is a fine line between "worth it" and "unnoticeable different".
