Firestick won't connect to phone remote

My firestick remote control got flushed so I've been using my phone. Firestick got turned on to mirroring and my phone remote won't recognize the firestick. Is the solution to buy a new remote or will the firestick recognize that?

That didn't help. My remote on my phone turned on the mirroring. If I bought a new remote control for this, will it work then?

a new remote will work of course, but it should be possible with an android 4.0 or higher phone too. Have a look at the "PAIR" description in the link. Did you sign in to your amazon account on your fire TV app?
