If it's a huge concern, they should deal with it just like they deal with passengers bringing DVD pron on board... My guess is that it's not a common issue.

Let's make a rule that defines acceptable conduct rather than try to make a firewall barrier to those that would try and break it.

> Why do they care if people watch porn???
Because the kid sitting behind the porn watcher could be watching too. I don't really care what people watch in their privacy but out in public people have to be more careful. The line of what's acceptable and what's not varies with every individual and is therefore easy to cross.

I think the porn issue is the least of the worries. Other stuff like hacking using the airplane's network or getting into other people's laptops I think is far more important.

"makes it a very sticky subject" , yes , a sticky subject indeed.
I'm sorry but this is just too much , I'm rolling on the floor here.
In my opinion even if they do manage to remove all porn from airplanes they should also hire old ladies or something as flight attendants otherwise even that might be enough for some people to find themselves in sticky situations, especially if the outfit is rather skimpy . :))

Hay, this isn't porn!

I was surfing the net and came across the word "Porn" next to "flight steward" so I clicked to settle into my daily routine of "me" time. Needless to say, I was very disappointed to see only a picture of a jumbo jet. I'd rather have seen a jumbo woman.

Flight attendants are patrolling the aisles, anyway, right? So, if they see someone watching porn and it's visible to other people, as well, they can demand they stop. Why go to all the trouble of firewalls when all the technology you need is hired already?

You clearly don't have children (or brain cells).

Planes are a public place, so more strict rules apply to them.
Haven't you ever thought why smoking isn't allowed on planes? Nothing wrong with smoking, rigth?

For those who are saying they don't see the problem with porn, remember that most talking here are from the US - we have puritanical rules from the foundation of our society that says violence is okay but sexual intercourse is bad. After all, seeing a guy get his face smashed in or buildings explode is okay for kids but sex is not.

However, I do have to agree with the argument that a plane is a public space. No one says you can't view your porn in private (say, maybe in the bathroom while using headphones if you really must while on a flight - but if you can't go without porn that long, you may want to seek some help with your addiction). What they are saying is that a certain degree of public decorum should be maintained.

By their same argument, I think violent movies should also be blocked - but I doubt there would be any support for that.

More to the issue, however, is that the argument is inane. Those who would view porn via in-flight wi-fi would most likely have alternate sources if blocked. Files on a computer or thumb drive, porn magazine, DVD, CD, or steamy novel. Blocking wi-fi will not block porn, plain and simple. (Kinda like how people say EA's DRM is pointless because it doesn't affect those that pirate the game.)

Yes this is a big deal!
Pornography can become an addiction - until you have been there done that, don't tell me it is not.
I have SeeNoEvil on my laptop that I travel with, so nothing gets through - it holds everyone accountable.
I know, I don't want to look over and see the guy (or girl) next to me watching porn, and I really don't want my son or daughter to see the guy next to them watching porn.
Some things are just not meant for a public place like a plane (even if they think they are viewing it privately )

Why does this have to do with computers at all? Porn magazines have been around forever. Have they been a problem on planes?

I think it's wrong for the media to drum up all sorts of fear about a problem that does't exist.
