Formatting a new hard drive

Formatting a new hard drive for a hp pavilion dv6000 laptop. The old hard drive crashed and I no disc to do this. How would I go about doing this? Thanks for any help you could give me.

you format it automatically when you install windows on it. no need to do it before then. just plug it in (remember to take out the battery while you work on it) and should be ready to install windows. during the install select advanced drive options and you can create more partiions if you need to
