After some recommendations in my last thread I found two lenovo laptops
1. lenovo y40-80 the $639 version

2. lenovo z40 again the $639 version

I'll mostly be using it for regular college stuff (i.e chrome, word, and powerpoint) but would also like to use it for gaming. which is better?

The performance difference between the 5th gen Core i5 and 4th gen Core i7 is actually not very large. What the max clockspeed of the Core i7 is 3.1GHz and the Core i5 is 2.7GHz, the 5th gen CPUs have about 5% better performance than 4th gen CPUs. That means a 5th gen CPU running at 2.7GHz would be equivalent to a 4th gen CPU running at 2.84GHz.

The Radeon R9 m275 is more powerful than the nVidia 820m so it would be better for games. And the difference is CPU performance is negligible. The link below includes some benchmark results of the m275 along with the nVidia 820m, 840m and 940m. Because the m275 is pretty new there are fewer benchmarks for that GPU at this point in time. Scroll all the way to the to see actual performance...
