Free acer tech support

I Have an Acer Aspire 5517 and am having trouble with my HP 6700 Officejet printer. I spoke to HP tech support; they tried to connect and take control of my computer but were not able to. The rep said the active x could not install and that this may be due to infections in the laptop. I need to know what to do about this and be able to install active x. HP tech said they will be contacting me in a day or so to try again. Please help. THANK YOU!
