Galaxy note 2 battery

Battery of my Samsung galaxy note 2 drain very fast I have to recharge it every day may be too many programmes running in back ground. Can someone kindly tell me how to close these programs or any other way to extend the battery life?

70% of battery power goes to backlight and the screen. just lower the screen brightness

Thanks but I already did that. The reason for I suspect background activities is that most of battery drainage happen when phone is not in use like when I sleep with a fully charged phone battery within 6 or7 hrs it's more than half gone
