Gaming: 2 in 1 vs Traditional Laptop?

Solution
The Surface Book is expensive especially if you want the version with the GTX 965m GPU. I think it starts at around $2,400. The initial "high end" version has a 940m GPU which is now considered to be a budget GPU. It has an i7-6600u.

The Dell XPS 15 with the best configuration currently sells for $1,900 (it seems Dell is currently having a sale). That's with an i7-7700HQ, 4k touch screen and a GTX 1050.

Overall, the GTX 1050 is a little more powerful than the GTX 965m. You can see some benchmark comparison in the link below which will lead you to Notebookcheck.net. Keep in mind that these are average FPS benchmarks from various gaming laptops and the fact that gaming laptops generally has a quad core Intel CPU, not a dual core Intel...

Therefore, games that can take advantage of more than 2 CPU cores will have lower results with a dual core CPU compared to a quad core CPU.

Im actually looking for a laptop long term laptop for some light gaming and video editing. I am willing to spend under 1,200 though.

I suppose you can find a MS Surface Book on sale for less than $1,200, but it will only have a dual core i5 CPU and the Intel HD 520 graphics core.

As for the Dell XPS 15, if you want quad core i5-7300HQ and the GTX 1050, then you need to bump up your budget to $1,300. Otherwise, for $1,000 you get the dual core i3-7100H with the Intel HD 630 graphics core. Dual core i5s are decent enough to do video editing, but a quad core CPU is preferred. The Intel HD 520 / HD 630 are decent enough to play "light games", but it depends on what games you are talking about. The HD 520 is less powerful than a nVidia 920m while the HD 630 should be a little better than the 920m. Nowadays though, the 940mx is considered a budget dedicated GPU and it is a lot more powerful than the 920m.

You can play some games with the Intel HD 520 / HD 630. just be aware that you may need to play some modern games at 1280x720 or 1366x768 resolution with low graphic settings to get decent performance.
