I'm starting at a college this week and am looking into getting a laptop. I'm kinda picky about what I want, and am looking for suggestions as to what would be the biggest bang for my buck.

I'm commuting every day and I have a lot of downtime between classes, but I live too far to make it worth coming back home. So I plan on getting something that will be pretty decent with gaming while also not having extremely crappy battery life.

1. What is your budget?

Around $1200

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?

At least a 15.6" display

3. What screen resolution do you want?

At least 1600x900

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?

More replacement desktop, I'm going to be spending as much time gaming and doing work on this as I am on my current desktop.

5. How much battery life do you need?

The more the better, but there will be plenty of outlets scattered around campus.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

A wide variety of games, ranging from pixelated Indie games to current-gen games. Willing to bend on quality of graphics if the price is made up for elsewhere.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)

Watching movies and programming in a variety of languages for school over the next 4 years.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?

At least 500GB, but preferably 750GB and up.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.

Most likely Newegg (no tax and I'm signed up with Shoprunner, can't beat that).

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?

As long as possible, preferably throughout college (3-4 years)

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?

DVD Writer, I don't need Blu-ray.

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.

I prefer to buy Lenovo, Asus, or MSI mainly for the sole reason that I've heard many many good things about them. Definitely not Acer, I've always had problems with them in the past and it's left a terrible taste in my mouth.

13. What country do you live in?

United States

Last, but not least, I want to go Intel for the CPU. Preferably an i7, and preferably 4th gen, but I know that's reallyreaching for this budget.

I'm looking at these two, but I haven't gone laptop shopping for years, before I actually got into IT and knew what I was talking about.

SImple, this is your best choice. Get the one with two graphics cards. You can get it for an even 1000 on Amazon. It is the fourth one going left to right. Like the previously mentioned MSI laptop but with better graphics.
