So I'll be off to college this fall and am planning on buying a laptop for the first time. I'm definitely bringing my desktop down to college, so I'm not entirely sure what I want. I'm a big time gamer and the rig I'll be bringing down is an i5 with a 760GTX and 8GB of RAM. Should I go for a cheap laptop and upgrade 2 years down the line or coast on a high end gaming laptop for 4-5ish years? At the very least, I want something capable of running Paradox and Indie games and watching movies at 1080p. Using the Laptop Buying FAQ, I put a full rundown below

1. What is your budget?
- $1800 Less is better though wouldn't mind going up to $2000 if it gets a lot of bang for its buck

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
- Around 15" would be good, though 17" isn't bad either

3. What screen resolution do you want?
- 1920 x 1080

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
- Portable, though I'd like general desktop function. Definitely not looking for a net/chromebook

5. How much battery life do you need?
- At least 4 hours. Battery is huge for me. 6 hours would be awesome, anything more would be amazing.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
- Definitely. I mainly play strategy games like Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II, but also play a lot of indie games, as well as the occasional Far Cry 3 or Bethesda game. I'd like to run these games on the go on high. I'll be doing most of my heavy gaming on my desktop (like Metro Last Light)

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
- School work (I'll probably be doing a lot of Comp Sci work on this), watching movies, general programming

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
- At least 500GB, though I'm totally fine with, and would even prefer SSD's paired with an HDD

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
- Newegg.com, Amazon.com, Bestbuy.com

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
- 4-5 Years would be great. Though if it's ~$500-$700, 2-3 years is fine

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
- I want a DVD drive, but I can live without it

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
- I've never had a laptop before so it's hard to say, but Lenovo and MSI seem reliable.

13. What country do you live in?
- USA (North East, so no Fry's nearby)

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
- I consider myself to be a pretty strong guy, but I don't want to lug some 10lb beast with me.
- I'm OS agnostic, so as long as it gets great bang for its buck, I'm fine with Mac, Linux, or Windows
- I don't need a touchscreen, though if it doesn't add much to the cost that's cool too

Right now the MSI GS60 looks really tempting (both the standard and the pro version), but I've also heard the Lenovo Y50 is coming out soon and is supposed to be awesome!

Thanks for the quick reply! I should probably clarify though that the desktop rig is already built and that I'm just looking for a laptop. The Asus is a little too heavy for my tastes (10lbs) and the battery seems to be on the short side (3.5 hours). The 3 stars on the Razer seems a bit concerning . . . (plus the 500GB comes around $2200). The battery life, however, seems very promising
