Gaming Laptop Guidance

So I am trying to get a new "gaming" laptop for my son. I want this to be a decent upgrade that lasts a few years anyway. For performance, think Skyrim running on high. The laptop should be able to handle most graphic-heavy games with little lag and difficulty.

With that in mind, I came across this Dell. I am looking for an opinion as to whether or not this is a good machine. The specs are good but are they good enough? Any advice is really appreciated. Was hoping to keep costs under 800 if that's possible.

The Laptop you suggested doesn't have a Dedicated GPU, most modern games don't really run well on Integrated Graphics.

That should be good enough. You could spend a little extra for the 1050 Ti if you wish.

If your budget is $800 then there are quite a number of good gaming laptops that you can buy.
Skyrim isn't much demanding game, it would run fine even on $500 laptop but if you are looking for laptop that can run games like GTA 5 then you'll need to buy a gaming laptop with dedicated GPU.

Well, to handle graphic intensive games easilly at fullHD with some dificult you will need a gamming laptop at least with a 1060 (or a 960 from last generation).

Probably that would be closer to 1000-1200+ than to 800 if you dont get a refurbisehd deal or something like that..
If you ask to handle mode demanding games with no dificulty be ready for a laptop with a 1070 and probably 1800-2000.

Gamming laptops are expensive.

The GTX 1050 is already figting to get barely playable framerates on current gen games (already under 30fps on Ghost Recon Wildlands on high, Deus Ex Manking Divided, etc...) i dont expect that that Laptop cound handle the games a few years on the future even on reduced settings, i would not bet even for the next year games (Star Citizen, etc..)

There is no other gaming laptop providing better specs than the Dell I suggested!

I know there are good GPUs than GTX 1050 but his budget is $800 and there is no laptop with GTX 1060, 1070 in that price range.

You'll find most of the laptops in $800 price range with 960M, 950M or 940MX GPU so comparatively GTX 1050 is the best GPU for the budget.

Narrowing down your decision to the 2 laptops now - Dell inspiron i7559-2512 (the one you linked) and inspiron 7567 (the one I suggested)

Processors comparison -
i7559 has i7-6700hq which is very little powerful than the i5-7300hq on the inspiron 7567.
i7-6700hq is the 6th generation processor (1 year older) and i5-7300hq is the 7th generation processor (newest and recently launched).

GPU comparison -
i7559 has NVidia GeForce GTX 960M graphics (2 years older) and inspiron 7567 has NVidia GeForce GTX 1050 graphics (newest and recently launched).

So, i7559 has little better CPU and 2 years older GPU and inspiron 7567 has the little less powerful CPU but the latest GPU.

The laptop which I recommended to you is recently launched by Dell so it is not yet available on any e-commerce websites. So, the only way to buy it currently is, from Dell.

If you're looking for a notebook which can run most games on max settings at 1080p min, I'd recommend the either Gigabyte's Aero 14 or their P55/57 series. These models have at least a GTX1060- GTX 1070 in them with at least 16 GB of RAM. Although VR isnt common yet, at the very least its safe to say these laptops are VR ready.
