Hey guys, I am currently looking for a laptop to take with me to college that will stand the test of time. The specs I am looking for are:

  • $2000 budget
14" or 15.6" Display (or anything in between)
    8gb+ RAM
GT 750m or higher graphics card with 2gb+ dedicated memory
5lbs or less in weight (~2.3kg)
    ~20mm or less thick (height)
1920x1080 screen resolution or higher (16:9 or 16:10)
    Windows (no macbooks please)
    4th Generation Intel Processor (Haswell)
    Touchscreen preferred but not required
SSD highly prefered but not required
Whether you classify the laptop as a gaming laptop or ultrabook is up to you, I just want something that is relatively thin and light and capable of light gaming (for current and future titles). I also want to take into consideration how long the laptop will be able to last me.

I am currently looking at the
Dell XPS 15 9530 $2349.99
http://
The New Razerblade 256gb $2399.99
http://
Gigabyte P34G $1349.99 (Newegg)
http://
Gigabyte P35k $1799.99 (Newegg)
http://

The first two are clearly over my budget, but I am hoping it will be worth it. Any laptop suggestions or user experiences with any of the laptops I listed will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

the 870M is a tiny bit behind the desktop gtx 660 - a.k.a it'll play everything at high or better.
it has a 3k screen - no idea why you'd want that but go for it
its a haswell I7
has an ssd
is very thin and light
it aint touch screen but there's no laptop that is even close that is - the closest one is the asus 500JK - and that runs a gtx 850M - which is similar to the gtx 765M which aint the best you could get.

I second this suggestion, the GS60 is an amazing looking machine. You're not going to get power with an ultrabook though, with the super small laptops you trade power for portability. Same with pretty much any laptop. The other thing to remember with high end laptops is the more you spend, the faster they depreciate in value.

After looking at the ghost pro, I'm pretty set on that. Do you recommend i pay the extra money for a 3k monitor? Although i may scale the resolution down when gaming, I do like watching movies on my laptop so a nice crisp high resolution screen would be nice.
I also can't seem to find a place to buy the 3k version anywhere except for the link you gave me, is it even released yet?
