If it's overheating, it's probably clogged with dust. Laptops are notorious dust collectors due to the small air pathways and little fans they use. Once that airway gets clogged, it's like you have a blanket on your CPU/GPU instead of a cooler. Use a compressor to blow it out or open it up and go through it with an air can.

This effect is twice as bad with laptops like yours that have a discrete graphics card.

If you keep the intake and exhaust vents clear of obstructions then it shouldn't.
